Stir the peanut butter down

If the peanut butter has separated, stir the oil back in until it is even, and add the pinch of salt if it is an unsalted jar.

— The oil on top is not spoilage, it is the whole point of a jar with nothing else in it. Stirred back in it spreads; poured off, what is left sets like cement.
