Ingredients
- 2 lbground beef, not too lean — 15% fat
- 3 1/2 ozbreadcrumbs, dried
- 2eggs, beaten
- 4hard-boiled eggs, cooked 9 minutes, cooled and peeled
- 1yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 clovegarlic, minced
- 1/2 cupwhole milk
- 2 tbspWorcestershire sauce, contains anchovies
- 1/2 cupketchup
- 1 ozdark brown sugar
- 1 tbspDijon mustard
- 1 1/2 tspsea salt
- 1/2 tspblack pepper
Method
- 1
Heat the oven to 375°F. Mix the beef, breadcrumbs, beaten eggs, onion, garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper together with your hands, stopping the moment it comes together.
- 2
Press half the mixture into a loaf shape on a lined tray, lay the peeled hard-boiled eggs end to end down the center, then cover with the rest and seal the seam so no egg shows.
- 3
Stir the ketchup, brown sugar and Dijon together and brush half of it over the loaf in an even coat.
- 4
Bake for 40 minutes, brush on the rest of the glaze, and return it to the oven until the center reaches 160°F, about 15 minutes more. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
